An industrial story.
Mecànica Riba was founded in 1936 by Gabriel Riba i Cortés at 17bis Latrilla Street in Badalona, specializing in the manufacture of mechanical presses. The company grew and, between 1963 and 1965, moved to a larger workshop and adopted the name Prensas Riba S.A.
In 1962, his sons Agustí Riba i Serret, Josep Riba i Serret and Salvador Riba i Serret took over the company, and they began collaborating with the French company LBM to jointly manufacture hydraulic presses.
In 1985, he formed an alliance with the German group KRUPP, expanding the customer base in Spain, France and Italy, and RIBA-KRUPP ended up supplying all kinds of machinery for the automotive companies that were setting up in Spain at that time.
Later, Agustí Riba i Serret founded Talleres Pi S.A., specializing in precision hydraulic presses, and in robotic automation for all types of manufacturing processes. After a few years, the company recovered the name of Mecànica Riba S.A. where his entire family and sons actively participate.
Industrial legacy evolution.
From 1998, continuing the work, the young Agustí Riba i Faura began a new stage of teaching at the POMPEU FABRA - ELISAVA University, guiding students towards a new way of working through the use of computers, 3D software, virtual reality, and the most advanced design and engineering techniques.
With the experience acquired by Agustí Riba Faura during his teaching period at the University, and thanks to the technological advances in software and hardware in the 1990s and 2000s, a powerful engineering department dedicated to product design and mechanical group engineering was born, adding the capacity to perform structural, thermal, kinematic and dynamic optimizations, already in the previous stages of design.
In the mid-90s, Riba Engineering was created, combining the family's experience in industrial manufacturing with the innovation and talent that emerged from ELISAVA, which allowed this new company to be relaunched at the end of the decade.
Renewal of the family brand.
In 2025, after almost 90 years of history, the family brand RIBA reinvented itself, and returned to its origins with a renewed image.
It recovered the original logo with the name "RIBA" and the press insignia used by the founder, Gabriel Riba i Cortés, in 1936, all with a modern style that combines tradition and technology.
From this year on, Riba Engineering transformed itself to consolidate itself as a solid engineering company, specialized in product and machinery design, with a clear commitment to collaborating with other companies, and becoming a brand in industrial Catalonia.
